alster fontäne in hamburg

The CAS Collegium Ars Scribendi (Latin for Council of Art of Writing) is the biggest active German collectors club, established in 1996 with around 130 members not only in Germany but also in other countries worldwide. Members receive a monthly e-mail newsletter (in English and German), once a year we publish the CAS magazine Ars Scribendi. collage.jpg We have several meetings places in Germany where we meet fellow collectors regularly. CAS supports the German pen shows in Hamburg, Cologne, Nuremberg and the Tilburg Pen Show. The organizers of the shows in Hamburg, Nuremberg and Tilburg are CAS members

Number of members is increasing rapidly thanks to our website www.cas1996.de launched in 2007. Membership fee for active members is EUR 35,EUR 50 for financial supporters. Included in the membership fee as well is the German Pen magazine "Schreibkultur" issued three to four times a year. Its a vivid community all collectors are enjoying very much. Once a year we organize a trip for our members (previously to Aurora, to Pelikan, to Montblanc, to Faber-Castell, to Omas).

Washington Pen Club

Washington DC, US Capitol building

We are a very informal group of people, with no officers, no fixed meeting schedule, and no membership dues. We try to meet about every two months, usually on a Saturday or Sunday morning, at the offices or homes of our members. We sometimes have meetings with presentations, by members on the particular pens they collect, and occasionally by guests - people who have worked for the pen companies, or who have current pen businesses. We sometimes meet at our local pen stores, Bertram's Inkwell or Pen Haven in Maryland The interests of the group range from vintage to modern, fountain pens to ballpoints (stylo billes) to mechanical pencils.

Canada:Vancouver Pen Club

canada-vancouver.jpg

The Vancouver Pen Club was founded in Vancouver, B.C., Canada in December of 2006 by five original members who were interested in sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm for the fountain pen hobby with others.

It has since grown to about 35 people, about one-third of whom seem to show up for any given meeting. The meetings are traditionally held on the third Thursday of the month at 6:00pm-8:30pm, usually at a local pen store or restaurant in Vancouver. The meetings are held monthly from September through May, with no meeting in December.
There are no speeches or formal presentations required of members (unless someone volunteers e.g. one of our members is going to do a talk on industrial designers and fountain pen design next spring) and no club dues. We merely bring pens/pencils/other writing instruments or accessories (ink, paper, etc) and ephemera ,both vintage and/or modern,to show each other and discuss..... and that takes up the bulk of most meetings.

Each meeting does have a theme or topic; the most recent ones have been "School Pens", "Your Favourite Non-Fountain Pen Writing Instrument" and "Your Desert Island Pen, Paper and Ink". We are a very casual club; it doesn't matter to us if you have only one pen... or one hundred pens; as long as you have some enthusiasm for the hobby and a love of writing instruments, that's all that matters!
